Reactions Can Happen (Even With Hypoallergenic Metals)Updated 18 days ago

Our jewellery is made from carefully selected hypoallergenic materials and is designed especially for sensitive ears. While this greatly reduces the chance of irritation, no material can guarantee that every person will never experience a reaction.

Everyone's skin is different, and there are many reasons why irritation can occur, even when wearing hypoallergenic jewellery.

Common causes of irritation

A mild reaction may be caused by:

  • A new or recently healed piercing.
  • Friction or pressure from the jewellery.
  • Earrings being worn too tightly.
  • A build-up of skincare products, shampoo, soap, or other residue.
  • Natural skin sensitivity.
  • Temporary changes such as stress, illness, hormonal changes, or certain medications.

What should I do?

If you experience mild irritation, we recommend:

  • Removing the jewellery if your ears are particularly sore.
  • Gently cleaning both the jewellery and your piercing with a suitable saline solution or as advised by your piercer.
  • Allowing the area to settle before wearing the jewellery again.
  • Ensuring the earrings fit comfortably and are not too tight.
  • Gradually increasing wear time if your ears are especially sensitive.

In many cases, mild irritation settles quickly once the underlying cause has been addressed.

When should I seek medical advice?

If your symptoms become severe, worsen over time, or show signs of infection—such as significant swelling, increasing pain, pus, or fever—we recommend removing the jewellery and seeking advice from a healthcare professional.
